Viral photo of girl drinking a beverage on board MRT draws mixed reactions online

A photo of a girl drinking a beverage on board an MRT train has gone viral online, since it began circulating on Facebook. It is illegal to consume food or drinks on board public trains - those caught flouting this rule can be fined a hefty $500. This did not appear to have deterred a young girl from drinking a store-bought beverage during her MRT trip. Another commuter caught the girl in the act and posted a photo of her on social media: The photo quickly mixed reactions on social media, with quite a number of netizens opining that it's fine to have a drink and that it is no big deal: Others, however, felt that relaxing the rule that prohibits eating or drinking on board trains will be a "big mistake" and that public transport fares may hike if litterbugs abound due to the relaxed rule: Some others felt that it was wrong for the other commuter to take a picture of the girl. These netizens felt that the commuter should have approached the girl directly: Interestingly, some Facebook users revealed that eating and drinking on board trains is a more common sight than others may realise. This prompted other netizens to question whether the rule is appropriately enforced by train operators:
