SINGAPORE: The National Parks Board (NParks) has recently set up a cage trap in Victoria Street, an area that was suspected of having a crow infestation. Due to the trap, the authorities managed to capture a total of ten crows all at once.

The trap, as shared by Shin Min Daily News, was filled with food such as bread to lure the birds. When the birds were trapped inside, the cawing of the animals was heard, and some were flapping their wings, trying to escape the cage.

It was said that there was a sign next to the cage, informing the members of the public that the cage was set up by the authorities. Furthermore, based on how the cage was built, it was deemed that the birds who entered it from above could not fly out on their own.

When the news was shared online, many members of the public supported the government’s initiative, stating that the bird problems should be controlled, especially since some of the crows have been attacking people. Moreover, people believed that the increase in the number of birds is also related to the people who have been feeding the birds for a long time.

“The bird cages are equipped with shade to provide shelter for the crows, and food and drinking water are also provided inside. The captured crows are taken away every day,” the authorities declared.

The government is also reminding the public that they can help lessen the bird problems by not feeding them and by ensuring that the food scraps are properly disposed of.

Under the Wildlife Act of Singapore, feeding any wild animal can result in a fine of up to $10,000 for a first offence, and it will increase to up to $20,000 and/or imprisonment for up to 12 months for repeat offenders.
