Lorry flips sideways into pedestrian walkway along Punggol Road, taking rain shelter down with it

A lorry rammed into a pedestrian walkway at the junction of Punggol Road and Compassvale Street this afternoon, flipping sideways after the crash and collapsing part of the walkway's rooftop.

Fortunately, the lorry did not land on any pedestrians. A woman in her 50s, believed to be a passenger in the lorry, sustained minor injuries but refused to be taken to the hospital. This is according to the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) which dispatched an ambulance to the scene after being alerted to the accident at 12.35pm.

The driver of the lorry was spotted looking at the wreckage in shock after the accident. He told reported that the lorry he was driving belonged to local manufacturing and distributing firm, TC Import and Export.

Land Transport Authority alerted commuters to the accident just before 2pm and advised drivers to avoid the leftmost lane.
