Google’s Top Searches for Singapore and Malaysia for 2017

Google’s “Year In Search” has shown what Singaporeans and Malaysians have looked for the most in 2017. These include last year’s SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Apple’s iPhone 8 and X, among others. Lazada, ezbuy, Cathay Cineplexes were the most searched brands in Singapore, taking the first three places respectively on Google’s list. Emerging brands and market disrupters also made it to the list, including Circles.Life, a digital telecommunications company, and oBike, a service for bicycle sharing. Among the events that ranked high on Google’s list are first placer ArtBox Singapore, followed by Formula One. Other yearly festivals that made it to the events list are the Singapore Night Festival, which came in at seventh, and the Chingay, which came in at eighth. Among searches for what’s trending, Pokemon Go is still number one on the list, perhaps partly due to Sgpokemap, a real-time local tracker for Pokemon, that Singaporeans use to aid them with the game.  Numbers two and three respectively on the most-searched list are Apple’s new offerings, iPhone 8 and iPhone X. Meanwhile, in Malaysia, Apple’s iPhone 8 took the number one spot in trending devices for last year. Number two was iPhone X, and taking the next three spots were Oppo F5, Huawei Nova 2i, and Huawei P10. Rounding out the rest of the list were other devices from Asia, including Huawei P10, Oppo R9s, Vivo V5, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Huawei Mate 10. For the overall trending searches, BR1M, a financial aid program for low wage earners took the number one spot. Hero Seorang Cinderella, a local TV drama, followed at number two, with the SEA Games taking the number three spot. Another local drama, Titian Cinta, and SAPS NKRA, the analysis system for public school examinations for parents and teachers, also made it to the top ten list. For 2017’s trending news topics in Malaysia, JJ Poor to Rich, a money game operator, ranked number one. The price of petrol, Budget 2018, MRT Malaysia and Lembaga Getah Malaysia, came next on the list. Worldwide news items also made it to the list, including Catalonia and Hurricane Irma.
