S'pore chickens now $80 per kilo on Carousell, seller bought new fridge to stock up 500kg of chickens — Netizens say this can't be for real
There is a looming shortage of chicken in Singapore after Malaysia announced on May 23 that it would halt imports of fresh chicken starting from June 1 to ensure its own supply. This led to widespread speculation that the price of chicken will increase, and there have been reports that people have started buying fresh chicken in bulk at wet markets and grocery stores.

According to the description, the seller “just bought a new fridge that can stock up to 500kg of chicken.”
They added that “Lowballer will be ignored. No Nego(tiations).”
And while the product enjoys Carousell protection, some may feel sketchy about the seller, @i_luv_chicken_rice, who has no photos or reviews and just joined the platform on May 25.

The seller only has one follower so far. But the ridiculously expensive chicken already gained 77 likes.
Netizens on Reddit who believe the seller is serious were understandably upset.
However, most commenters refused to take the ad seriously.
