Singapore's Foreign Minister to pay respects to late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan will be visiting Tamil Nadu, India, today (6 Dec) to pay his respects to the late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Her Excellency J Jayalalithaa in Chennai. A press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Minister will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. J Jayalalitha died on Monday of cardiac arrest. She was 68. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu state was undergoing nearly three months at a Chennai hospital before she breathed her last at 11.30pm yesterday. Fondly referred to as 'Puratchi Thalaivi' (revolutionary leader) and 'Amma' (mother) by her supporters and well-wishers, Madam Jayalalithaa rose to occupy the highest office in the State following a successful career in the Tamil Nadu cine field.
