Religious officer lambasts Johor Sultan in reload of 'Muslim only launderette" issue

A Jakim (Department of Islamic development in Malaysia) officer Zamihan Mat Zin who questioned the Johor Sultan on his order to ban a 'Muslim only' launderette in the state of Johor will be investigated by the authorities.

News reports in Malaysia stated that the Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed said the government will "investigate and take action" against the officer, Zamihan Mat Zin.

Earlier, the officer expressed his utter surprise that his criticism of the Sultan was reported to top officials in the state, including to the king.

The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar criticized a laundry shop in the state which forbade non-Muslim customers, describing the Chinese customers as unclean.

The Jakim official, a trouble-maker, allegedly supported the launderette, stating the non-Muslims (Chinese in this case) brings in clothes with signs they do not clean after defecation.

Zamihan was previously a religious officer with the Home Ministry but was transferred to Jakim last year after a row with Perlis mufti Asri Zainul Abidin.

“There is a Sultan who said ‘the Muslim friendly dobi' should not exist in his state’, and that this is not a Taliban nation…’? It is not for the Sultan to speak like this,” he lambasted.

“We are in an Islamic state, with Islamic leadership, Muslim king, Muslim Sultans. Every one of them takes the Islamic oath.

"But to open a Muslim only launderette is not allowed?" he asked.

"We are being called extremists, and we are being called Taliban for that?” Zamihan said while delivering a lecture at the Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah, Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam, last weekend.

He was commenting on Sultan Ibrahim's statement as reported by The Star and TISG on Sept 27, which described the actions of Elit Laundry shop owner in Muar that had shamed the people of Johor.
