Man arrested for pushing cleaner onto rail track for no apparent reason

HONG KONG - Police have arrested a man from Southeast Asia for allegedly pushing a woman onto a light rail track in Yuen Long, Hong Kong on Saturday morning (21 Oct).

CCTV footage shows a female cleaner standing on the edge of a platform waving to a colleague. All of a sudden, she is shoved from behind by a man in a beige cap, green shirt and brown trousers, before he calmly walks away.

The woman, 59-year-old Mdm Leung, had been standing on platform No 5 at the Yuen Long terminal for the Light Rail’s 761P route at about 10.30am. Fortunately, no train was passing by at that moment.

Mdm Leung has been admitted to Pok Oi Hospital, with injuries in her jaw, according to a policewomen.

She also said that the culprit had been arrested near the rail stop. He is believed to be a Hong Kong identity card holder.

Police investigations are ongoing.
