Jay Chou and BTS top Singapore's 'most-streamed' artists list of 2019

On Tuesday (Dec 3), Spotify came out with a list of the "most-streamed" artists and songs of 2019. According to the audio streaming app, Taiwanese singer Jay Chou and K-pop superstars BTS are the top artists among Singaporean listeners, and the most-streamed track of the year was pop track Señorita by musical couple Shawn Mendes and Camilla Cabello. Spotify, which has truly revolutionised the way we listen to music, has come up with lists of the "most-streamed" artists and songs of the year. They noted that the lists were curated based on the number of plays (lasting at least 30 seconds) recorded for each artist and song.

Taiwanese crooner Jay Chou bagged the top spot as the artist most listened to this year by Singaporean music lovers. The seven-member K-pop boyband group BTS were next in the number two spot. American singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran is in third place, while Singaporean singer JJ Lin and American singer-songwriter Ariana Grande round off the last two spots in the top five most-streamed artists globally for Singaporean listeners.

As for domestic artists, Spotifys results showed that Singaporeans listen to JJ Lin the most, followed by local songstress Stefanie Sun and electronic musician Jasmine Sokko. In third and fourth places for most popular local artists for the year are Tanya Chua and Gentle Bones.

The hot pop track Señorita by couple Shawn Mendes and Camilla Cabello scored the top spot as most-streamed song by Singaporeans in 2019. The second most-streamed song in Singapore was BTS’ Boy With Luv (featuring Halsey), followed by Eric Chou’s 怎麼了 (What’s Wrong), Ariana Grande's 7 Rings and then Sunflower – Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse by Post Malone and featuring Swae Lee.
