For the love of Taiwanese food: Snaking queues at Singapore’s Shilin Night Market

Singapore – No more flying to Taiwan for its most famous night market. A Shilin Market pop-up is currently being held at The Ground @ Kranji (Singapore Turf Club) over two weekends fromn April 19-21 and 26-28 from 3 pm to 11 pm. It’s first day proved to be a huge success as netizens posted videos of the snaking queues and wrote about how they had to wait for more than two hours to get to enjoy Taiwanese and Singaporean street delicacies. Although there were artisan shops, craft stores, arcade games stalls, live performances, and movie screenings, people flocked there more for the food. Facebook account NivRe Chua uploaded a video of the queue with the caption, “Think twice before coming to the shilin night market in Singapore~ this is how long the q is right now!” Catch a glimpse of the line to the venue below. https://www.facebook.com/ervin.lun/videos/vb.648985224/10156840239510225/?type=2&video_source=user_video_tab The rain didn’t bother the visitors, either. “To all who are thinking of coming to Turb Club for 士林夜市 (Shilin Night Market), this is the current situation. Crowded and the rain is definitely not welcoming. ???? Oh, there is a long queue in the rain to go in as well,” wrote @damian_wanderer on Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bwbk4xanfzM/?utm_source=ig_embed Many thanked @damian_wanderer for the update as they were planning to visit the night market as well. In a blog post for “All About Singapore,” the writer talked about the “ridiculous” queues and lack of planning by the organisers. “The long snaking queues at popular Taiwan food stalls were really ridiculous. My cousins had booked for Taiwan Devil fried chicken via Klook. Even then, she had to queue for 2 hours for the food! Some people who didn't book via Klook online had to queue to pay for the food first and then queue again for the ordered food!  I didn't want to waste time queuing up for food so I explored the shopping area where Taiwan artists sell their craft. I noticed Singaporeans came to the night market for the food as the craft shopping area was sparse.” Andy Heng commented how chaotic the place was while Kelvin Goh noticed how there was only one entrance and one exit which could pose as a potential fire hazard.
