Chilling message left by boatman 17 hours before his death
SCDF retrieved the body of boatman Ong Hock Long, 33, late last night (13 Jul) from the Singapore River. Mr Ong had jumped into the water after his boat caught fire in Marina Bay on 12 Jul, but did not resurface.

Chinese newspaper Wanbao reported last night that the boatman was heartbroken after a break-up with his girlfriend 2 months ago, and that it still affected him. He was also reeling from a failed duck rice stall business, from which his family had to bail him out of.
Now, netizens have revealed a chilling Facebook post Mr Ong made just hours before his death. It was his last.
In the post, he asked his friends “If one day, I had an accident and I lost my memory, how are you gonna make me remember you?”
Wake for the dead boatman is being held at Block 735, Jurong West St 75 till Saturday (16 Jul) morning.
