Rosmah awaits AG's action on her role in 1MDB scandal

Reports said Rosmah should expect at least 20 criminal charges, a first in Malaysia's modern history for a former FLOM. The Wall Street Journal had said in June that Rosmah was the "central force' behind the 1MDB scandal. The Journal wrote investigators and people close to the wife of deposed prime minister Najib Razak said Rosmah’s pursuit of wealth was a crucial factor in driving Najib’s government deeper into corruption. It is unknown whether investigators believe Rosmah had a personally directed the complex transactions that diverted funds from 1MDB, said the Journal. It also said people who know her say she facilitated the alleged involvement of a young Malaysian financier - Jho Low - who the US Justice Department (DoJ) says helped set up 1MDB and then oversaw its looting. The U.S. agency is involved because it believes US assets were among those purchased with graft proceeds. The DoJ has filed civil suits seeking to seize nearly US$2 billion (RM8 billion) of such assets, including a private jet, luxury homes on both coasts and a film production company headed by Rosmah’s son from her first marriage.

Pressed by the local media to give an indication on Rosma's fate, the MACC chief Mohd Shukri, refused to comment any further.

“I cannot answer your questions on whether or not she will be prosecuted because it is outside our jurisdiction,” he said when met after delivering an executive talk titled “Corruption: A Challenge for the Young People” in conjunction with the Varsity Anti-Corruption Convention at (KoMawAR) at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) here today.
